COSMIC cell lines from ECACC
COSMIC (Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer) has released the 100th version of its online knowledgebase which includes additional information on over 300,000 somatic mutations linked to human cancers, including novel mutations from 4,482 tumor samples.
In total, the COSMIC database holds data on more than 24 million mutations across thousands of cancer types. Multiple online resources are provided that can be used in combination to help facilitate traditional research, improve clinical management strategies, and advance understanding of cancer biology.
COSMIC datasets can be applied to:
-
Identify cancer driver mutations.
-
Characterise the mutational landscape of specific cancer types and tumors.
-
Explore known and potential therapeutic targets.
-
Discover and validate biomarkers associated with cancer prognosis, treatment response and patient outcomes.
-
Drug sensitivity and resistance studies to gain insight into genetic factors behind the results.
-
Genomic epidemiology to help study how genetic factors influence human health and disease.
Mutation profiles are also available for over 1000 cell lines used in cancer research, 200 of which were originally sourced from ECACC. Mutation profiles for these lines includes information such as tissue classification for the sample and tumour source details, along with sequence coverage statistics, and information on fusions, mutations, and breakpoints. The cell lines can be ordered directly from the Culture Collections website either in frozen format, or as DNA-5µg (100ng/µl).
