NCPV New Strains 2022

This year we have focused on gathering deposits of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern. We have made SARS-CoV-2 England 2, SARS-CoV-2 Delta and SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.1, available on our website. We currently have SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.4 and Omicron BA.5 undergoing our Quality Control procedure.

An exciting development for NCPV in 2022 has been, in collaboration with UKHSA Virology and Pathogenesis Group, the introduction of x -ray irradiated SARS-CoV-2 to our Catalogue. These viruses have been inactivated and sterility tested so they can be handled under Containment Level 2 laboratory conditions. Irradiated SARS-CoV-2 Wuhan Hu-1, Alpha, and Omicron 1.1.529.BA.2 are currently available. We hope to expand our range in the coming months.

We have also made the 2022 isolate of mpox available. We are currently developing the x-ray inactivation protocol and testing the antigenic properties of the irradiated virus. We hope to make irradiated mpox availble in the New Year.
