Coronavirus collection

During the 2020 pandemic coronaviruses were once again catapulted to the forefront of scientific research. The great demand for our historical strains demonstrated the value of our collection.

NCPV already held Betacoronavirus isolates of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-1) from 2003 and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS) from 2012. Currently, we hold several of the SARS-CoV-2 isolates from the 2019 pandemic, as well as less pathogenic Alphacoronaviruses HCoV-229E and HCoV NL63 and HCoV OC43.

NCPV quality controlled and authenticated isolates continue to be valuable research tools for scientists investigating coronaviruses, developing diagnostic assays and therapeutics.
