Irradiated viruses
X-ray irradiation renders viruses non-infectious and, our evidence suggests, the antigenic structure of the authentic live virus is maintained. Thus, irradiated viruses can be handled as ACDP Hazard Group 2 organisms in a containment level 2 laboratory and can be shipped as non-infectious material.
Currently X-ray irradiated SARS-CoV-2 and mpox 2022 are available through NCPV. We are aiming to extend our range of irradiated products in the future.
